Privacy Policy
VoiceRead AI is built on a simple principle: your text never leaves your device. All speech synthesis runs 100% on-device using locally stored AI models. We do not transmit, store, or process your selected text on any server.
1. Who We Are
VoiceRead AI is developed and operated by Itrostack LLP. References to "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refer to Itrostack LLP. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at support@voicereadai.com.
2. What Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data required to operate the extension and verify your license.
Data that stays entirely on your device (never sent anywhere):
- Text you select on web pages for text-to-speech playback
- Audio captures and screenshots you save to the dashboard
- Extension settings (voice, speed, model tier)
- AI model files downloaded to your browser's IndexedDB storage
- Trial usage counts (how many free conversions you have used)
Data sent to our servers only when you activate or validate a license:
- Your license key (provided by you at activation time)
- A device instance ID (a random identifier generated at activation — not tied to your identity, browser profile, or any personal information)
3. How We Use Your Data
The license key and instance ID are used solely to:
- Verify that your one-time purchase is valid
- Enforce the activation limit (maximum 2 devices per license)
- Allow you to deactivate a device and transfer your license
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond license management.
4. Third-Party Services
License activation and payment processing is handled by Dodo Payments. When you purchase VoiceRead AI or activate a license key, your transaction data is processed by Dodo Payments under their own privacy policy. We receive only a license key and confirmation of payment — we do not receive your payment card details or billing address.
AI model files are downloaded from our static model server (model.voicereadai.com) on first use. No personal data is sent during this download — it is a standard HTTPS file request.
5. Data Storage and Retention
All extension data (captures, settings, model files, trial counts) is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's IndexedDB and chrome.storage APIs. This data is stored on your device only and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
License key and instance ID are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. We retain a record of issued license keys and activation counts on our license server to prevent abuse, but this record contains no personally identifiable information beyond the key itself.
6. Permissions Explained
VoiceRead AI requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab — to read the visible tab when you click "Capture" and to send playback control messages to the current page
- contextMenus — to add "Read Aloud" and "Capture" options to the right-click menu on selected text
- storage — to save your settings, license status, and trial counts locally
- offscreen — to run the AI model in a background document (required for ONNX WASM inference in Chrome MV3)
- tabs — to open and focus the dashboard tab
We do not use any of these permissions to track your browsing history, read page content beyond the text you explicitly select, or access any data unrelated to TTS functionality.
7. Children's Privacy
VoiceRead AI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Open Source Components
VoiceRead AI includes open-source software components licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and the MIT License. A complete list of components, copyright notices, and applicable license texts is included in the THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES file distributed with the extension.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
